How was your labor? Share your story!?
Heres Mine.
I started getting aches sunday the 16th november 2008.
Except they weren't horrid, Or very bad, Just a tense tightening for about 5 secs max, So i didn't think anything of it.
As the day went on the pains grew, But were still not worrying me one bit. I went for a shower, And after started having a "Heavy liquid" Feeling on my underwear, I went to the toilet and i was leaking brownish-yellowish stuff, Thought it was my mucus plug so i started to get excited.
At 2pm my pains grew, So with the help on Y!A I figured out they were contractions. Every now and than id post a question timing my contractions so that the Y!A Community could help me know when i needed to go/call the hospital (Great site this is).
By 5pm they were lasting about 30seconds and were 1-2Min's apart.
I was in agony by 7pm I couldn't stay still, Every contraction i had was painful I had to crouch and rock my body to feel any satisfaction but that still didn't work. My mother called the hospital, and they told me to come in, It was an 45 Min's away and i got there at 8pm.
I was still leaking this "stuff" and i told the midwife when i got checked, She said it was my mucus plug and nothing to worry about.
They hooked me up to the monitors and realised the baby was in distress as her heart rate was rising. They gave me pethidine, and other stuff and tried to get me out of labor. I fought to stay awake and alert because the pain was unbearable anyway.
After she realised the labor was still happening she sent me to my room, I was only 2cm dilated and my cervix wasn't getting any thinner. By 10pm the other midwife came on duty, while i was in the shower, she just waltzed in and saw my sanitary towel and asked how long id been leaking i said since this afternoon, She chucked me a towel and rushed me to the labor room. I was put back on Monitors and told that the stuff i was leaking was meconium, Baby's first poop. And that my waters had broke without me realising. My baby's heart rate was dropping rapidly and so was mine, What seemed like within 5 seconds i was dressed in a gown and shaved "downstairs" and being wheeled into the theatre, where i signed papers and got my epidural.
c-section begun 3am.
By 3:55am saturday morning 17th nov 08 my little girl was born weighing 6p9oz and 48cm long.
Happiest moment of my life.
Though i was also very disappointed that the 1st midwife didn't realise what was wrong, Because the 2nd one said i was lucky, any later and my daughter could have passed away.
Recovery was pretty easy, Though i had a blood loss problem and had to receive 2 bags of blood.
Happiest Days Of My LIFE!!

Not all labours are bad. I was very scared during my first pregnancy because of all the negative labour stories I was told. So, here's a positive one. I was due in a week and had had a busy day which included a walk which left me very sore in the hips. My doctor had already told me that I was starting to dilate 2 weeks before – 2.5cms. My husband and I went to bed late that night (after midnight) and I couldn't really sleep. At 1am I felt a small sting as my water broke. I immediately started to panic a bit, realising that it was all starting to happen. My hubby told me to grab a towel and go back to sleep! AS IF!
I rang the hospital who said to come in when my contractions were 5 minutes apart. They started 10 minutes later and were 7 minutes, then 6, then 5. I called the hospital, got dressed and finally got hubby out of bed to drive us there.
A midwife showed me to a room and checked me out, telling me that I was 5cm dilated. It was very quiet at the hospital, being so late at night. The contractions were just like really bad period pains. It got harder to talk while I was having them. Hubby rubbed my back and I was given a small morphine injection in my arm by the midwife at about 3am. It didn't do anything.
I asked the midwife to check how dilated I was. When she finally did she said I was about 8cm. I started to feel my body want to push a bit and she told me – no, wait for me to call the doctor. Yeah right…
I walked to the delivery room and laid on the bed. The midwife offered me the gas which I tried but it didn't seem to work. I was just biting on the pipe mostly. When the doctor arrived I was allowed to start pushing. It was painful and I sort of held back a bit I realise now. My son was born at 5.07am after 40 minutes of pushing. But immediately all pain stopped and I was so happy to hear his little cry.
And guess what – the thing I remember most is that I didn't make much noise at all during the labour. Why? A good friend of mine who'd had a baby earlier that week was in the room next door and I didn't want her to hear me screaming. LOL.
I later threw up in the shower, but otherwise everything was really good. I know I was lucky to only have a 4hr labour.

i worked until 2 days before my due date which was 22 june. that weekend my mother in law was flying in from the states to be here for the birth of our first child. on monday 22 june, i felt fine. i played tour guide all day in the City of Melbourne and that evening we came back to our place for dinner and a little baby shower. we drove my mother in law back to her hotel and i remember saying 'man, i feel crampy.' that was at 9:30pm. an hour later, i knew for sure i had just begun pre-labour. that entire night the contractions grew stronger and slightly closer together. i wasn't able to sleep a wink let alone sit down the entire night. sitting made the contractions unbareable. at 1:00am (23 june), i called the hospital to tell them what was going on and get some reasurance that this was normal and they told me that until my water breaks to just hang out at the house. it wasn't until 6:30am that morning that i was able to sleep for 10 minutes at a time and sit down but only until another contraction came. at 10:30 am i called my mom back in the states and finally told her her grandchild was on her way and then i lost my mucus plug. i showered and felt great – the calm before the storm. by the time afternoon rolled around we were timing contractions at 2-5 minutes apart (they were very irregular) so we called the hospital again and they said some in. at 2:30pm (23 june) i was admitted to the hopsital and told i was 5 cm. as the day went on the contractions were um…annoying but tolerable. to make a long story short, come 10:30pm on the night of the 23rd, the baby's heartrate all of a sudden started dropping and the mid-wifes noticed a greenish colour in the pad i was wearing. they told that the baby had pooped inside and all hell broke loose in the room. there were able 10 people there and bloodtests had to be taken on the baby's head as well as a heart monitor had to be placed inside to monitor her. i was now bedridden and in awe of what was happening. i had to now wear a monitor around my belly. the baby's heartrate wasn't picking back up after my contractions and sounded the alarm a couple times. she would go from 120 beats down to less than 50. scary now that i think about it. i decided at the very end to get an epidural and was given an injection to help spead up her delivery. what happened was that she just decided she wasn't going to move any more. after an hour of monitoring i was finally ready to push. no kidding, 3 pushes later our little girl was born at 3:14am on 24 june after 29.5 hrs of labour and 12.5 hrs of observed labour in the hospital.
it was the greatest experience of my life! the pain meant nothing and was soon forgotten!
good luck!

I was induced with Cervadil, so I went into the hospital on a Sunday and had the Cervadil put in. I had to have it put in again 12 hours later because I'd made so little progress. Around 5pm Monday, I was having some lower back pains [I later found out it was the beginning of back labor] and I was about 3cm at 7pm so I got to go down to labor and delivery. They hooked me up to Pitocin and broke my water around 8:30PM. I got my epidural about an hour later. About two hours later, it wore off and I was able to feel my contractions for about 20 minutes while I was waiting on the anesthesiologist to come back to my room. It was AWFUL! Once I got the second dose of epidural, I was great. I ended up going from 5cm to 10cm in about an hour and a half, and started pushing at 2:53AM. Mackenzie popped out seven minutes later at 3:00AM, weighing in at 5lbs 14oz and 19in long. Greatest moment of my life. I actually thought labor was a breeze and couldn't figure out why everyone talks so negatively about induction, I thought it was great!

My first pregnancy i thought i was going to die. lol but i wasnt going into labor and i was 2 weeks overdue by the time they finally enduced me and still wasnt having any contractions. i went to the hospital at about 6am dec 3rd and was enduced at 8am. but didnt start having contractions for a while. i had a epideral which took away all the pain. i totally regret it though cuz i missed out on the real expirence. Even though it was lovely, i didnt feel a bit of pain the entire time. it was still the biggest regret about that day. She was born at 6pm dec 3rd and at that moment i felt my entire life change. She was the greatest gift. Now she is about to be 2. OMG! how time flies.
