Questions for those with fetal dopplers?
Hello
I was a question for those mommies who use home dopplers.
I'm 32 weeks pregnant and still use it pretty much everyday because I've been bit worried.
My baby's heart rate was usually around 150.then it dropped to 130-140 when she's not moving, and for the last 2 weeks the heart rate at rest went down to 120-130.It does just a LOT when she's moving around tho.It does way up to 170,but slows down again when she stops.
Do u think that it's something I should be worried about?I've noticed that change in the HR at 28 weeks aprox but I don't know if this is normal.
I thought it might be my doppler, well the gel I've been using since it doesnt give good sound ( its not the u/s gel but a normal KY ).
Any thoughts?
Thanks
Lana

The normal heart beat range of a newborn/fetus is between 120 to 160. Just like us, when we stand up and become active, our hearts beat more. When we're at rest, it slows down. That's perfectly normal. Most of the main development is over by 30 weeks and they focus on building baby fat, so it makes sense that the heart rate would slow a bit and be less active so baby can build that fat.
Just a note…those fetal dopplers are another form of ultrasound. There hasn't been conclusive evidence either way that it is ok or harmful for a fetus. But one study was done by Dr. Michael Odent, a french OB, who found that by inserting a microphone into the uterine cavity, a doppler/ultrasound sounds like a helicopter over your head. It's best for your sanity and for the baby developing in you to use it sparingly, don't you think? Our bodies have ways of letting us know if there is something wrong, and if you're feeling the baby move and there hasn't been anything else going on, everything is probably just fine
Have faith!

I don't use home dopplers, but I do know that everyone's heart rates are slower when at rest, especially when sleeping, and much faster when they are active or even awake. I wouldn't think it's anything to worry about, but you might want to mention it to your obstetrician and get a more expert opinion. Good luck.

I was in the hospital yesterday for 5 hours (long story) they monitored babies heart rate the Whole 5 hours we were there… my baby when moving was around 150 but when she was just hanging out and kicking once in a while it was at average 135.. when she went to sleep and did not move at all it dropped to 120 Or Below. So no what your saying sounds right on track.

I think this is a common question because it was asked just last week. The normal fetal hear rate is 110-160 and depending on if they are moving at the time the heart rate might be higher. When we move around a lot our heart rates go up and it is the same with babies. This is nothing to worry about and it means that the baby has good oxygenation to the brain and that things are functioning as they should
